Rev. C 104, 024609 (2021)]. relevant process to study in nuclear physics. In this work, we will consider a nuclear reaction that can be described as: a(b + x) + A → b + B∗, where B∗ is any possible configuration of the x+A system. In an experiment, if the final states are not completely determined, that is, not all outgoing particles are detected, the reaction is called inclusive. The theoretical interpretation of these reactions is complicated due to the fact that there are many processes that can contribute to the production of the fragment b. Inclusive breakup processes are divided into three contributions: elastic breakup (EBU), non-elastic breakup (NEB) (the INBU, transfer, and ICF processes are included) and complete fusion (CF). For the theoretical study of this type of nuclear reactions, we use the Ichimura-Austern- Vincent (IAV) formalism [Phys. Rev. C 32, 431 (1985)] in its prior version. This formalism is implemented in the computational code “Smoothie”, developed by Dr. Jin Lei in collaboration with the supervisor Antonio M. Moro. We use this code to determine the total transfer cross section for the reaction we are working on. The aim of this work is to extend the IAV method to situations where the projectile b is an unbound system that can be formed in different energy and relative momentum configurations, and decays into its constituent parts after the collision. To do this, and because experimental data are available [Phys. Rev. C 104, 024609 (2021)] to compare with the theoretical calculations, we choose the reaction 197Au(9Be,8Be) where the projectile a is 9Be, which is a borromean nucleus composed of two alpha particles and one neutron, and the ejectile b is 8Be (α+α), which is indeed a system that does not form bound states. We will account for this in our theoretical calculations by means of the overlaps of 9Be in its ground state with 8Be in each of its representative states. These the overlaps are computed in the hyperspherical harmonics framework, which allows us to construct the three-body wave function for the 9Be nucleus. In this way, the three-body projectile structure is integrated into the IAV formalism, which is the innovative approach of this work. The calculation of the overlaps was carried out by the supervisor D. Jesús Casal. The ultimate goal of this work is to compare the calculated total transfer cross sections for different incident energies of 9Be near the Coulomb barrier, with the experimental data available, and with theoretical calculations using the CRC method, both acquired from Gollan et al. for the nuclear reaction 197Au(9Be,8Be)198Au [Phys. Rev. C 104, 024609 (2021)]. |
