Numerous railway structures in Spain are becoming obsolete and are being replaced by newer, more modern and functional tracks and viaducts. For not long ago, it was decided, with the participation of ADIF and the relevant provincial councils, to rehabilita te these old railway tracks, transforming them in green routes, so that they can be used by walkers, cyclists, etc. This paper focuses on the rehabilitation and reconditioning of a railway viaduct built in the 19th century and located in the town of Cordob a, which is known as the ''Puente de Hierro sobre el arroyo de Los Pedroches'' (Iron Bridge over the Los Pedroches stream). To support and sustain the arguments, and as a tool to simulate the behaviour of the structure, a digital twin is also going to be developed, with the help of the results obtained experimentally on the structure itself, by applying the finite element method and a subsequent update of the numerical model. With all this, it will be possible to simulate the behaviour of the structure and verify what modifications would have to be made to guarantee a safe and efficient use by the walkers who pass through this structure. |
