Among the rarities that the old collection of the Library of the University of Seville keeps is a factitious volume that includes, among other curious pieces, some pages with the strange title Instruction for the Novices ... Among the rarities that the old collection of the Library of the University of Seville keeps is a factitious volume that includes, among other curious pieces, some pages with the strange title Instruction for the Novices of the Holy Matrimony taken from the Rules of Antonio of Nebrija. In them, some instructions are given in a satirical way to choose the future wife well and face the marriage, accompanied by some Latin codas taken from the Introductiones of Antonio de Nebrija. In addition to the interest that it may have this curious work, this work undertakes its study and edition to analyze in detail some facts that emerge from its particular language: the solid presence of Nebrija in the canonof Latin school grammar of the early Modern Age; the subverted use of a specialized language such as grammaticography for adeply rootedtradition as the antimarital satire and the school coexistence between Latin and Romance inthe construction of a satire. |
