La decoración mural de Juan Miguel Sánchez en la parroquia de Santa Teresa: una aportación singular en el arte sacro sevillano del siglo XX

Abstract

Las pinturas murales que Juan Miguel Sánchez Fernández realizó en 1961 para decorar el inte- rior de la parroquia de Santa Teresa de Sevilla constituyen una aportación original y de gran moder- nidad en la pintura mural y el arte sacro sevillano del siglo XX. A través del análisis de los aspectos técnicos, formales e iconográficos de estas pinturas murales al fresco, el artículo pretende rescatar del olvido esta obra única, que no ha sido anteriormente estudiada, constatar su importancia para la his- toria de la pintura mural en España y ampliar el conocimiento sobre la trayectoria artística y biográ- fica de su autor.

The mural paintings that Juan Miguel Sánchez Fernández created to decorate the interior of the Church of Saint Theresa in Seville in 1961 are a relevant contribution of great innovation to mural de- coration and to Sevillian sacred art of the 20th century. Through the analysis of the technical, formal and iconographic aspects of these fresco mural paintings, this paper tries to rescue this unique work, that hasn’t been previously studied, to realize its importance for the history of mural decoration in Spain and to expand the knowledge of the author’s historic and biographic information.
