El culto en vida a Augusto en Hispania

Abstract

En este artículo se considera un conjunto heterogéneo de inscripciones hispanas que permite documentar la existencia de culto al emperador Augusto, y algunos miembros de su familia, en vida. Se trata de epígrafes en los que aparece el término sacrum, así como dedicaciones a su genius y numen. Estos testimonios muestran la divinización de la figura imperial en vida a través de iniciativas colectivas e individuales que responderían a motivaciones diversas. Asimismo, se hace hincapié en el papel de las primeras evidencias de culto en la reorganización política de zonas recientemente anexionadas al Imperio, como es el caso del noroeste hispano.

In this paper we consider several unlike inscriptions from Hispania that prove the existence of worship of emperor Augustus and some family members during his government. In these inscriptions, the word sacrum can be seen, as well as some dedications to his genius and numen. Those testimonies are an evidence of the divinization of the imperial figure during his lifetime through collective and individual initiatives that would respond to different motivations. These incipient manifestations of worship played a fundamental role in the political reorganization of recently annexed areas, such as the northwest of Hispania.
