The main objective of this study is to make clear if there exists a relationship between the disappearance of a great number of lagoons in the eastern coast of the province of Huelva and the recent climate changes. The main objective of this study is to make clear if there exists a relationship between the disappearance of a great number of lagoons in the eastern coast of the province of Huelva and the recent climate changes. For that reason a reconstruction of the reduction of the surface occupied by these wetlands since around the beginning of 17 th century has been made, using aerial photos data, satellite images, microrelieve studies and historical sources. These data are compared with the human activity in this zone, and with the longest available environmental rainfall series, so that the antropic activity impact upon these wetlands since the middle of 20 th century is revealed, but the peat bogs and large temporary lagoons reduction since the end of 19 th century is not explained. However the rainfall series analysis along with the distribution quintiles emphasizes the diminution of the number of wet years in that period. On the other hand, the number of dry years is increased, so that a climate inflexion point is detected at the end of 19 th century, coinciding in our opinion with the end of the Little Ice Age. |
