Abstract | La Nanomedicina es una ciencia que se encarga del diseño y modificación de sistemas de pequeño tamaño, y que ha permitido importantes y prometedores avances en el campo del diagnóstico y terapéutica de enfermedades, entre ... La Nanomedicina es una ciencia que se encarga del diseño y modificación de sistemas de pequeño tamaño, y que ha permitido importantes y prometedores avances en el campo del diagnóstico y terapéutica de enfermedades, entre otras, del sistema nervioso central (SNC), enfocados en la mejora de la vehiculización de principios activos para darles acceso a lugares del organismo donde no podían llegar o donde no llegaban a una concentración adecuada. El SNC es un sistema que cuenta con múltiples mecanismos de defensa que dificultan su acceso a la mayor parte de los principios activos, siendo la barrera hematoencefálica (BHE) un obstáculo insuperable para la mayoría de los principios activos, ya que su permeabilidad selectiva solo permite el paso de pequeñas moléculas lipídicas. De ahí que suponga todo un reto el diseño de fármacos indicados para el SNC. Una alternativa eficiente para administrar principios activos a través de esta barrera es el empleo de nanotransportadores. Estos no solo son una herramienta con un gran potencial para mejorar el tratamiento con fármacos que ya se usan hoy en día, logrando los mejores efectos terapéuticos y disminuyendo los efectos adversos, sino también para incluir en el arsenal terapéutico otros nuevos fármacos que por sus características fisicoquímicas no podrían atravesar la BHE. Además, la gran variedad de nanotransportadores que existen ayudan a la mejora tanto del tratamiento como del diagnóstico de enfermedades del SNC. En este trabajo fin de grado se hace una revisión de los nanotransportadores y las estrategias de mejoras de la vehiculización de principios activos a través de la BHE, así como la potencial toxicidad de estos mismos. |
