Abstract | Introducción: Las plantas han servido desde hace siglos como materia prima para la elaboración de medicamentos. En la actualidad, siguen siendo objeto de estudio por parte de la industria farmacéutica con el fin de hallar ... Introducción: Las plantas han servido desde hace siglos como materia prima para la elaboración de medicamentos. En la actualidad, siguen siendo objeto de estudio por parte de la industria farmacéutica con el fin de hallar en ellas nuevas sustancias con actividad farmacológicas y nuevas aplicaciones clínicas. Debido a la gran cantidad de información disponible hoy día en formato digital, ha sido útil para la elaboración de esta revisión el uso de algoritmos de minería de datos, capaces de detectar y extraer la información requerida a partir de textos de gran extensión. Objetivo de la revisión: Esta revisión tiene como objetivo descubrir las especies más estudiadas en investigación farmacéutica en la actualidad, describiendo brevemente su biología; hacer una recopilación de las actividades farmacológicas que han sido recientemente demostradas y descubrir futuras terapias en base a ellas, así como incluir las indicaciones y efectos adversos de los medicamentos elaborados a base de algunas de dichas plantas. Metodología: Para la elaboración de la presente revisión se utilizó: la base de datos Web of Science, para la consulta de artículos; la página web Global Names Recognition and Discovery (GNRD), para la extracción de nombres científicos; la aplicación Excel, para seleccionar las plantas más estudiadas en la actualidad; el libro Flora of China, la página Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) y el Centro de Información Online de Medicamentos (CIMA) para recopilar información sobre ellas. Resultados y discusión: Las 6 especies más citadas durante los últimos 5 años en las revistas científicas escogidas son Salvia miltiorrhiza, Panax ginseng, Panax notoginseng, Withania somnifera, Ginkgo biloba y Curcuma longa. Conclusión: Las plantas más estudiadas en investigación farmacéutica en la actualidad son especies ampliamente utilizadas en la medicina tradicional oriental. Este hecho respalda su uso durante miles de años como plantas medicinales. |
