Currently, it is one of the countries best prepared against this type of natural disaster. The Japanese seismic architecture is one of the most advanced in the world. And, because of that, the main objective of this project is to present its evolution to the present. The geographical origin of the archipelago is fundamental in its historical and cultural development. It has received influences from very different cultures, such as Chinese and Western. But it has managed to adapt them to its convenience, and thus get the best out of them. Another important objective is to understand the main characteristics of its architecture through its most classic buildings. The ancient Buddhist pagodas are still a great model for earthquake-resistant architecture. Wood remains an important material in its architecture. Nowadays, it possesses very advanced technologies and a very resistant and flexible material, such as reinforced concrete. The seismic energy dissipation technology is the most used in Japanese buildings, and it is where most of these systems are researched and developed. Finally, we observe that the current Japanese architecture depends on many external factors, but also retains its own essence. |
