El agroturismo: una oportunidad para el desarrollo sostenible del sector agrario en la provincia de Los Ríos, Ecuador

Abstract

El agroturismo es considerado como un aliciente a la economía de las comunidades agrarias, logrando en su conjunto, valorar los elementos culturales que la destacan, tales como su estilo de vida, modos y herramientas de trabajo, sean estos tradicionales o ancestrales, entre otros aspectos de carácter social y ambiental que se pueden obtener. En este contexto, muchos países están realizando iniciativas para propiciar su desarrollo de manera sostenible, especialmente en América Latina, donde, algunos territorios tienen vocación agrícola, tales como Argentina, Perú o Panamá. Mientras tanto, en Ecuador poco se conoce sobre lugares donde se lleve a cabo el agroturismo, aún cuando existen provincias donde predomina la actividad agraria, por lo cual, el presente estudio tuvo como objetivo determinar el potencial que posee la provincia de Los Ríos para promover el agroturismo, utilizando como instrumento de análisis la matriz Foda. Los resultados obtenidos en dicha provincia destacan que aún se práctica la agricultura tradicional, poseen cultivos de ciclo corto y largo, logrando destacarse los de banano y cacao. Sin embargo, en lo que respecta a la infraestructura se requiere mejorar las carreteras de primer y segundo orden, así también, se deben implementar antenas que permitan ampliar la conectividad telefónica. De la misma manera, se debe profundizar en el compromiso de la comunidad para apostar al agroturismo, ya que, actualmente se muestran indiferentes a combinar el turismo con sus actividades de campo, mientras las instituciones públicas reconocen las oportunidades que tienen para impulsar el agroturismo, pero son pocos los esfuerzos que se han realizado en esta materia. Finalmente, se deben elaborar estudios y proyectos que permitan diseñar productos agroturísticos que respondan a las necesidades del segmento de mercado meta, y que, a su vez, se complementen adecuadamente con las características del territorio.

The agrotourism is considered as an incentive to the economy of the agrarian communities, achieving as a whole, to value the cultural elements that highlight it, such as their lifestyle, ways and tools of work, be they traditional or ancestral, among other aspects of a social and environmental nature that can be obtained. In this context, many countries are carrying out initiatives to promote their development in a sustainable way, especially in Latin America, where some territories have an agricultural vocation, such as Argentina, Peru or Panama. Meanwhile, in Ecuador little is known about places where agrotourism is carried out, even when there are provinces where agricultural activity predominates, therefore, this study aimed to determine the potential of the province of Los Ríos to promote agrotourism, using the Foda matrix as an analysis instrument. The results obtained in this province highlight that, traditional agriculture is still practiced, they have short and long cycle crops, managing to highlight those of banana and cocoa. However, in terms of infrastructure, it is necessary to improve first and second-order roads, as well as antennas that allow expanding telephone connectivity. In the same way, the community's commitment to bet on agrotourism must be deepened, as they are currently indifferent to combining tourism with their activities in the countryside, while public institutions recognize the opportunities, they have to boost Agrotourism, but despite this, few efforts have been made in this area. Finally, studies and projects that allow the design of agrotourism products that respond to the needs of the target market segment must be developed, and that, in turn, adequately complement the characteristics of the territory.
