¿ Es el centro lateral una acción efectiva en el fútbol profesional?

Abstract

En el presente estudio se han cuantificado y cualificado los centros laterales en el fútbol de alto nivel, con el objetivo de saber qué tipo de centro es el más usado y cuál es el más efectivo. Para ello, se han clasificado los centros en diferentes variables según el origen, sus características y qué desenlace ha tenido. Se ha utilizado la metodología observacional y se han analizado un total de 835 centros laterales en veinte partidos de la Liga Santander, y diez partidos de la Premier League de la temporada 2020/21, entre la jornada primera y vigésimo quinta. Los resultados obtenidos en la Liga Santander señalan que los centros más efectivos son poco utilizados en comparativa con otros tipos de centros, que el 35% de los centros buenos acaban en ocasión de gol y que tres de cada diez centros rasos o a media altura al segundo palo acaban en gol. Los resultados de la Premier League nos muestran que los centros más efectivos son los aéreos a la zona central y los centros a media altura al segundo palo. El presente estudio contribuye a una mejor caracterización del centro lateral y pretende darle valor a este gesto técnico.

The aim of this study is to quantify and assess different cross passes at the highest level in football in order to determine both the most used and the most effective one. For that reason, crossing passes have been classified/categorized based on different aspects such as its origin, how it was made and its outcome. Observational method was utilized as well as analysing a total of 835 crossing passes from twenty La Liga Santander matches and from ten Premier League matches in the 20/21 Season, between 1st and 25th fixtures. The results for La Liga Santander show the most effective cross passes are scarcely used in comparison to other types of crossing, 35% of successful cross passes ended up in chance of scoring and three out of ten ground or mid-height cross passes to the farthest post resulted in a goal. On the other hand, the results seen for Premier League indicate the most effective cross passes are the aerial ones sent to the center area of the box and mid-height crosses to the farthest post. Finally, this study contributes to a deeper and better characterization of cross passes and attempts to enhance its value.
