Nowadays, there are many implants for total or partial replacement of bone tissue that are made of titanium c.p. and alloys thereof. Due to the biocompatibility of this material and its alloys, as well as its excellent mechanical and chemical properties, it is one of the most widely used biomaterials in the field of medicine. However, prostheses made of Ti and alloys have three major problems: stress shielding, poor fatigue behavior and poor osseointegration. In order to improve the problems mentioned, in the following work a series of porous Ti substrates were manufactured by pluvimetallurgy using the spacers technique. Using ammonium hydrogen carbonate as a spacer at different percentages (30%, 40%, 50% and 60%) and in different ranges of particle size (100-200 μm, 200- 355 μm and 355-500 μm). Possible solutions to the three problems discussed above will be presented, emphasizing some of the existing surface modification techniques. Finally, all virgin substrates will be characterized, as well as those that have been subjected to one of the techniques presented. Specifically, substrates surface modified by chemical attack, Ti-β alloy substrates coated with graphene, substrates coated with silver nanoparticles and substrates coated with bioactive glasses will be analyzed. |
