Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) consists of a combination of design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA), as Ioan Marinescu says in his book "Product Design for Manufacture and Assembly", in which this project is based. There are guidelines for the design of parts that clearly save time and money if they are applied correctly. Many decisions have to be taken into account, one of the most important is the right choice of material to be used, whose price means between 50-75% of the total cost of the piece Therefore, it is important to get accurate material costs, in order to optimize the manufacturing of the pieces and consequently reduce costs. In this project the material costs of the real market will be analyzed and updated for comparison with those used by Boothroyd-Dewhurst in the cost estimation according to DFMA method. For this purpose, the material costs will be extracted in a massive and automatic way from the site of a well-known supplier. The extraction of material costs will lead to a database developed by means of Web Scraping and VBA principles, from which these costs will be represented, compared and analysed. The developed tool can be run in the future allowing material cost update according to the market situation at the time of the execution. |
