Contribución de Congreso Toward a green energy community: integration of micro-ORCs combined with renewable energy technologies in buildings(Universidad de Sevilla, 2024) Rodríguez Pastor, Diego Antonio; Soltero Sánchez, Víctor Manuel; Carvajal Trujillo, Elisa; Becerra Villanueva, José Antonio; Chacartegui, Ricardo; Ingeniería Energética; Ingeniería del Diseño; TEP137: Máquinas y Motores TérmicosDistributed microgeneration is an alternative for aggregate energy integration into the electricity grid. Low-temperature heat recovery systems, such as ORCs, are particularly interesting given their compactness and safety for application in the residential sector, operating at moderate pressures and low heat source temperatures. Energy surpluses generated by renewable technologies commonly used in the building sector, such as photovoltaics or micro-wind, can be used to power systems that provide backup and add inertia to the grid. In this study, micro-ORCs (< 2 kWe) were integrated with different heat supply technologies in buildings, including storage with DHW water tanks or sensible heat in bedrock for heating. An overview of possible configurations and techno-economic optimization is provided, offering combined strategies with other installations and additional characterization of energy communities with a larger number of connected neighbors, determining optimized integrations for covering thermal and electrical demands.
Contribución de Congreso Enhancing Architectural Climate Adaptation Through Passive Building Envelope Strategies in Southern Europe: A Case study of the Moroccan Pavilion(IOP Publishing, 2025-12-29) López González, Francisco Manuel; Castilla Roldán, Manuel-Viggo; Ingeniería del Diseño; HUM1008: Arquitectura, Patrimonio y EcologíaIn the late 20th century, architectural practice increasingly adopted advanced technologies to position buildings as innovative and recognizable. In southern Europe, however, where extreme climatic conditions are persistent and intensifying, such technologies often failed to ensure long-term sustainability. As these systems reach the end of their service life, shortcomings in energy performance, maintenance, and climate adaptability are increasingly evident. This study investigates the potential of passive design strategies and high-performance building envelope interventions to strengthen the environmental resilience of architectural typologies from this period. Central to the research is the building envelope as a double-skin façade: a dynamic, non-mechanical interface capable of improving thermal regulation and reducing operational energy demand without reliance on active systems. The methodology begins with analyzing and measuring the building’s existing capacities, followed by applying passive strategies to maximize its inherent potential. The objective is to test the building’s limits while proposing retrofit solutions. By evaluating innovative, envelope-focused interventions, the research develops a methodological framework for adapting outdated but structurally sound buildings to contemporary climate realities. Findings demonstrate that passive systems provide a feasible path to upgrade energy-obsolete architecture, extending building lifespans and supporting the transition toward resilient urban environments.
Contribución de Congreso Structural assessment of the Ronda bullring using non-destructive techniques(Universidad de León, 2025) Pachón García, Pablo; Garduño Ferreras, Carlos; Vázquez Vicente, Enrique; Compán Cardiel, Víctor Jesús; Estructuras de Edificación e Ingeniería del Terreno; Ingeniería del DiseñoThis study presents a comprehensive structural assessment of the Real Maestranza de Caballería de Ronda Bullring (Spain), an emblematic 18th-century structure, through an innovative multi-technique approach. The methodology integrates 3D laser scanning for precise geometric documentation, operational modal analysis (OMA) for global dynamic characterisation, experimental modal analysis (EMA) for local assessment of critical structural elements, and sonic tests to determine the elastic moduli of the principal materials. The research focuses on the inner ring of sandstone columns, identified as the most vulnerable structural component. A detailed finite-element model was developed based on high-precision laser-scanning data and calibrated using experimental dynamic properties. Results reveal concerning stability issues in specific columns of the inner ring, identifying elements at significant risk of collapse. This demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed methodology in detecting critical structural vulnerabilities in historic buildings.
Contribución de Congreso Structural health analysis of concrete pillars affected by fires(Universidad de León, 2025) Garduño Ferreras, Carlos; Compán Cardiel, Víctor Jesús; Cámara Pérez, Margarita; Pachón García, Pablo; Ingeniería del Diseño; Estructuras de Edificación e Ingeniería del TerrenoIn fire situations, concrete, commonly used for its resistance against fire, may be damaged by extreme temperatures. These may provoke significant degradation of the material, lowering is load-bearing capacity, internal cracks, etc. The extent of the affection is usually unknown and damage, imperceptible. Therefore, this study presents a series of techniques for detecting pillars that have been affected in actual fires, to make a limited and selective reinforcement, without the need to intervene in the entire group. The method is centered first in the use of dynamic techniques as sonic tests to determine the change suffered on mechanical properties, such as dynamic Young modulus. In addition, experimental modal analysis is used to determine natural frequencies and modes of vibration. The tested elements showed losses in Young’s modulus values reaching even 80% and reductions of frequencies respect healthy elements between 15 and 25%, which indicates a clear stiffness loss.
Contribución de Congreso Rehabilitation of industrial heritage as sustainable strategy: keys for the case study of “La Trinidad” Glass Factory(Editorial Universidad de Granada, 2018) Sánchez-Montañés Macías, Benito; Rey Álvarez, Belén; Castilla Roldán, Manuel-Viggo; González Boado, Luis; Ingeniería del Diseño; HUM1008: Arquitectura, Patrimonio y EcologíaThere is no need to insist on the huge importance of re-inhabiting the industrial heritage that has been bequeathed to us and we continue to accumulate at the rate of an increas-ingly rapid industry obsolescence. This phenomenon takes place in a present-day society and global community that demand urgent sustainability mechanisms or beyond together with the necessary resilience to face mutations that may be looming on all orders. Fortunately, these two statements resonate since, with a conscious approach, industrial retro-fitting can become a great strategy for sustainability, as it is proportional to the size and impact of its building stock. In this research, we will propose some work keys that will be exemplified with the case of “La Trinidad” Glass Factory in Seville. It will be used as a starting point augmented by the de-tailed case study of the work presented at an international workshop on industrial heritage, called ReFact. The present paper is elaborated as a result of this field work plus the theoretical investiga-tion that goes on.
Contribución de Congreso Creation of the semantic space in product design using Artificial Intelligence techniques. Case of study in the agri-food industry(AEIPRO, 2024-11-07) Molina Criado, Silvia; Heras García de Vinuesa, Ana de las; Gómez Bellido, Jesús; Luque Sendra, Amalia; Ingeniería del Diseño; Universidad de Sevilla; TEP992: Diseño e IngenieríaTo define the semantic space in design engineering, it is necessary to obtain a bank of adjectives, called kansei, that appeal to the user's emotions. During the initial recollection of kansei, the aim is to obtain a large number of them. For this purpose, related literature, articles, journals, magazines, websites, studies, advertisements, experts, previous studies, academic papers, etc. are typically consulted. In this work, both the database of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology and artificial intelligence tools are utilized. Several tools based on artificial intelligence have recently been introduced in the market, and are available to anyone with access to the Internet. While there are numerous controversies surrounding their use and the impact they may have in the future, their contribution to various disciplines is undeniable. In this work, two artificial intelligences have been used to obtain kansei: ChatGPT and Bard. Lastly, more kansei have been obtained from the website of a relevant glass bottle manufacturing company, and the initial collection of kansei has been carried out for the case of a glass bottle for wine packaging.

Contribución de Congreso Resilient Ergonomic Management in Engineering Companies: Principles, Models and Practical Applications(AEIPRO, 2025-10-28) Agote-Garrido, Alejandro; Martín Gómez, Manuel; Lama-Ruiz, Juan Ramón; Ingeniería del Diseño; TEP022: Diseño Industrial e Ingeniería del Proyecto y la InnovaciónBusiness ergonomics programs tend to be established based on the complaints of the workers, the number of workplace accidents, or occupational diseases. When organizations fail to anticipate future occurrences with an adequate risk management model, they become more rigid and, therefore, more vulnerable. This study identifies the main alternatives for implementing ergonomic programs based on resilience engineering principles, which companies use to reduce ergonomic risks and work-related illnesses. Additionally, the proposed resilience engineering principles for ergonomics management are identified. These principles enable the monitoring of ergonomic processes and the establishment of integrated indicators. Finally, the most relevant ergonomic risk management models are compared, validated through various application cases. The comparison highlights the benefits derived from these models for both the company and the workers, ensuring success in ergonomic risk management, promoting employee health, and reducing absenteeism.
Contribución de Congreso Systematic review of the integration of artificial intelligence in olive oilquality assessment(AEIPRO, 2025-10-28) Vidal Roldán, Luis; Zamora-Polo, Francisco; Heras García de Vinuesa, Ana de las; Luque Sendra, Amalia; Ingeniería del Diseño; Universidad de Sevilla; TEP990: Proyectos de IngenieríaOlive oil quality assessment has undergone significant progress today thanks to the incorporation of machine learning techniques. This allows for the resolution of the problems encountered with the tasting panel method, which, despite being standardized, has certain limitations due to its dependence on human perception, which further increases the variability of results. The methodology used consists of a systematic review of the use of machine learning in olive oil quality assessment, specifically in methods such as classification, authentication, and analysis. It also analyzes which input and output parameters were necessary for the development of other relevant studies, such as acidity, peroxide value, ultraviolet absorbance, and fatty acid profile. These data are handled with Random Forest and Artificial Neural Network techniques, among others. In parallel, the techniques used to obtain data on the physicochemical properties of these products are studied, including spectroscopy and gas chromatography. This communication seeks to contribute to the advancement of food process engineering and quality control, promoting a more objective and precise approach to olive oil evaluation.
Contribución de Congreso Life cycle analysis in BIM environments. Interoperability betweenapplications(AEIPRO, 2025-10-28) Ramírez-De-Arellano-Marrero, Rosa; Zamora-Polo, Francisco; Romero Lemos, Javier; Luque Sendra, Amalia; Ingeniería del Diseño; Universidad de Sevilla; TEP990: Proyectos de IngenieríaCompatibility between environmental databases and Building Information Modelling (BIM) data is a key factor in sustainable and efficient building development. A BIM model contains the detailed information of a building project in a digital format. The format in which information is stored in BIM model is essential to determine environmental analysis. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) tools process input data related to the digital model of a building and provide information on the environmental performance of the building. These tools can be stand-alone software where the BIM data is entered, such as SimaPro, or integrated applications within the BIM environments themselves, such as Tally for Revit. There are compatibility complications that have not yet been addressed by LCA software developers. The aim of this paper is to analyse whether the interoperability between BIM data and environmental data handled by LCA tools is sufficient to efficiently obtain reliable results regarding the environmental performance of a building.
Contribución de Congreso Complexity in the application of life cycle assessment (LCA) to industrial facilities due to data scarcity(AEIPRO, 2025-10-28) Ramírez-De-Arellano-Marrero, Rosa; Zamora-Polo, Francisco; Gómez Bellido, Jesús; Luque Sendra, Amalia; Ingeniería del Diseño; Universidad de Sevilla; TEP990: Proyectos de IngenieríaLife-Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a fundamental tool with an increasing use in the areas of product and building. This tool analyses the sustainability of a case study throughout its life cycle (LC), considering all phases from raw material extraction to waste or recycling of materials. To be able to carry out this type of analysis, access to data relating elements of the CV to its impacts is completely necessary. For industrial facilities, this data is scarce and very complex due to the large number of variables within a single component of an industrial plant. Like a building, a facility is made up of multiple products, for example, instead of bricks we work with pipes. The difference is that there are solid databases for building in the structural area (enclosures, insulations, pillars, etc.), while the area of installations is neglected. The objective of this contribution is to study the current state of LCA databases for industrial facilities, how they affect the quality of results, and what steps can be taken to strengthen these databases.
Contribución de Congreso Evolution of maritime transport in the current context ofdecarbonization measures in the ports of Western Andalusia(AEIPRO, 2025-10-28) Vázquez Vázquez, Teodoro; Zamora-Polo, Francisco; Heras García de Vinuesa, Ana de las; Luque Sendra, Amalia; Ingeniería del Diseño; Ayuntamiento de Sevilla; TEP990: Proyectos de IngenieríaThis study explores the perceptions of stakeholders involved in freight transport — including clients, road operators, and shipping companies — regarding sustainability in the ports of western Andalusia (Huelva, Cádiz, and Seville). The research is based on a structured survey designed to assess environmental awareness, willingness to adopt sustainable practices, and the factors influencing transport mode selection. The comparison between road and maritime transport is addressed from an exploratory perspective, highlighting the potential role of multimodal solutions in reducing CO₂ emissions. A complementary contextual analysis was also conducted using bibliographic sources, emissions data, and references to current European decarbonization policies. Although the study does not include technical modeling or artificial intelligence applications, it identifies the future development of certified digital tools for emissions monitoring and route optimization as a promising area of research. The findings contribute to a better understanding of the current attitudes toward sustainable logistics and offer insight into the opportunities and barriers involved in transitioning to lower-emission freight transport systems in a region of strategic importance for the agri-food sector.
Contribución de Congreso Inclusion of the social dimension and care in engineering degrees at the University of Seville: Didactic approach(AEIPRO, 2025-10-28) Zamora-Polo, Francisco; Ramírez-De-Arellano-Marrero, Rosa; Vidal, Luis; Luque Sendra, Amalia; Ingeniería del Diseño; TEP990: Proyectos de IngenieríaThere is a growing interest in addressing sustainability principles in engineering. The adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015 has led to a large number of educational initiatives aimed at promoting them and developing a sustainability-oriented curriculum. This paper analyzes the level of knowledge about the SDGs among a sample of university students and proposes a framework for advancing the 2030 Agenda within the context of the ethics of care. The aim of this work is to highlight the social and care-related dimensions in engineering studies—an aspect that has been scarcely addressed in the scientific literature and that could help increase interest in pursuing engineering education.
