Anotaciones acerca de imagines de Cristo en edad infantil, atribuidas a la Roldana

Abstract

Este estudio está estructurado en dos partes. La primera de ellas es una introducción en el mundo de los Niños Jesús sevillanos. La segunda parte se centra en los Niños Jesús atribuidos a La Roldana, presentando algunos inéditos, como el de Dª. Mª Jesús Lozano Jiménez, de Madrid. También se estudian otros Niños Jesús de diversos escultores, que se hicieron cuando se popularizaron en el siglo XVII especialmente coincidiendo en el impulso adoctrinador de la Contrarreforma, que pretendía, sobre todo a partir del Concilio de Trento, popularizar y humanizar a Cristo, en el pleno realismo del Barroco, que aceptó la Escuela Sevillana de los siglos XVII y XVIII

This research study is structured into two parts. The first one ls an introduction to the images of Child Jesus of the Sevillian School. The second part focuses to the images of Child Jesus attributed to “La Roldana”, introducing some previously unknown ones such as the one discovered by Maria Jesus Lozano Jimenez from Madrid. It also reviews some other “Child Jesus” by different authors, which were made when they became popular in the 17 th century especially with the indoctrination movement of the Counter-Reformation after Council of Trent. This movement intended to make the figure of Jesus more popular and human in the midst of the Baroque realism and was embraced by the Sevillian School of the 17 th and 18 th centuries.
