The relationship between personality profiles and coronary heart disease has been extensively studied, in particular Type A behavior. The aim of these studies is to estimate the etiological and prognostic value of Type A and/or its components. Nevertheless, the research about association of personality traits and subjective quality of life are scarce. This study was performed to evaluate (a) the presence of peculiar patients postinfarction traits of personality (b) the relationship between traits of personality and quality of life. The Sixteen Personality Factor Questionnaire (16 PF) of Cattell (ed. 1972) and Quality of Life Questionnaire of Velasco del Barrio (1992) were administered to 30 male patients hospitalized for acute myocardial infarction. The results confirm that the patients with acute myocardial infarction show neurotic traits of personality and its implication on emotional, personal and interpersonal quality of life factors but not physical and health factors.
