beneficio. | es |
dc.description.abstract | In this project, the technical and economic feasibility of adding an Energy Storage System (ESS)
into a wind farm will be studied.
The aim is to advance in the path of renewable energies, with the ultimate goal of gradually
replacing conventional generation, which is based on fossil fuels, by a more efficient, cleaner and
more distributed generation.
The main problem presented by wind energy, as well as all renewable energies, is the high
variability of the resource, that is, the difficulty of guaranteeing a certain energy in a certain moment
of time to cover the requirements of the network at that moment. This is due to its intrinsically
changing character.
Energy storage systems can help to eliminate this uncertainty when predicting the behavior of
the renewable resource and, therefore, the generation of energy associated with it. To achieve this,
they are able to store the generated energy and use it when it is most convenient. Based on this,
the present work will focus on studying wind farm management working in conjunction with an
ESS. An attempt will be made to establish an optimum adjustment of the set formed by the wind
power plant and the storage to obtain the maximum annual benefits and, in this way, to make the
investment that would include a storage system in a renewable plant as quickly as possible.
To do this, it will be discussed the choice of a wind farm that meets the minimum power requirements.
Also, it will be studied a favorable location so that the performance of the farm is adequate,
as well as having an available terrain to install the ESS in case its placement is viable, among other
characteristics.
Subsequently, it will had to establish an accurate mathematical model to reproduce the characteristics
of the wind farm with the least possible error and obtain the production with the maximum
detail. Parallel to this, the ESS will be chosen in according to the power of the farm and different
models that meet the requirements will be studied, choosing the most appropriate one.
Finally, the mathematical model will be transferred to the GAMS software, specialized in optimizing
functions. With this, the model will be simulated and finally it will be reached if it is really
feasible to implement the chosen ESS or, failing that, which ESS should be implanted to maximize
the benefit. | es |
