Aspectos arquitectónicos del antiguo psiquiátrico de Miraflores, arquitectura y mente

Abstract

¿Qué entendemos por salud mental y arquitectura? Lo primero que se nos puede venir a la cabeza al realizarnos esta pregunta es pensar en una arquitectura relacionada con las enfermedades mentales, de ahí surge la idea de los hospitales psiquiátricos. ¿Estos hospitales están en nuestro entorno? ¿Cómo funcionan en la actualidad? ¿Desde la arquitectura podemos ayudar a la creación de estos espacios? En este trabajo de fin de grado se dará respuesta a todas estas cuestiones empezando por un punto de vista más general, como en qué consiste un hospital psiquiátrico y cuáles son sus orígenes. A un punto de vista más particular, centrándonos en el caso práctico de Hospital Psiquiátrico de Miraflores, en la ciudad de Sevilla, estudiando los elementos funcionales que lo conforman, entendiendo si de verdad este tipo de arquitectura ayudaba a la salud mental de los internos, qué tipo de pacientes se podrían encontrar y la formalización de las habitaciones y corredores. Para concluir compararemos este tipo de instituciones psiquiátricas con las que hay en la actualidad y veremos si la arquitectura refleja los avances que se han dado en esta rama de la medicina analizando un hospital psiquiátrico de nuestro tiempo, Hospital Psiquiátrico de Kronstad, en Noruega, realizado por el arquitecto Origo Arkitektgruppe.

What do we understand for mental health an architecture? Usually, the first thoughts that come to our minds when we ask this question, we may think in an architecture related to mental illness and that is where the idea of an asylum comes from. Are these hospitals in our environment? How do they currently work ? Can we help to the creation of these spaces from architecture? In this final degree project, we will be giving the answer to all the questions, we will start from a general point of view, such as what an asylum consists of and what its origins are. A particular point of view more, focusing on case study of Psychiatric Hospital of Miraflores, in the city of Seville, studying functional elements that comprise it, understanding if really this type of architecture helped the mental health of the internally, what type of patients could be found and the formalization of the rooms and corridors. In conclusion we will compare this type of psychiatric institutions which are currently and will see if the architecture reflects the advances that have occurred in this branch of medicine by analyzing a psychiatric hospital in our time, Psychiatric Hospital Kronstad, in Norway, by the architect Origo Arkitektgruppe.
