Intervenciones en el antiguo colegio agustino de San Acacio de Sevilla

Abstract

El antiguo Colegio de San Acacio, del que se conserva el patio barroco atribuido a Figueroa, ha recibido diversas intervenciones entre los siglos XIX y XX para adaptarlo a los usos culturales y administrativos a los que se ha dedicado. Alojó la primera biblioteca pública de la ciudad, de mediados del XVIII a principios del XIX, la Academia de Nobles Artes hasta mediados del XIX, y desde entonces hasta 1931 la sede de Correos.

De 1936 a 1947 se utilizó para oficinas municipales y en 1948 se realizaron negociaciones para la instalación del Laboratorio de Arte de la Universidad. Al no dedicarse a este uso, el Ayuntamiento lo vendió al Real Círculo de Labradores en 1949, siendo reformado por el arquitecto José Manuel Benjumea. En el artículo se analizan las intervenciones que han acompañado a los diferentes cambios de uso, que explican la evolución formal del edificio hasta su configuración actual.

The old College of San Acacio, which preserves the Baroque courtyard attributed to Figueroa, underwent several interventions between the 19th and 20th centuries to adapt to cultural and administrative functions. It housed the first public library of the city from the middle of the 18th to the beginnings of the 19th Centuries; the Academy of Noble Arts until the middle 19th century; and since from then until 1931 it lodged was home to the main Post Office. From 1936 to 1947 it was site for some municipal agencies; later, in 1948, there were dealings to install the University Art Laboratory ion the building the Art Laboratory of the University. No agreement was then reached then, and the City Council sold it to the Real Círculo de Labradores in 1949. It was then refurbished by the architect José Manuel Benjumea. The article analyses the documented interventions that accompanied those different changes of use, explaining the formal evolution of the property.
