Manuel de Agote. Diálogo cultural y cartografía en China a finales del siglo XVIII

Abstract

Este artículo pretende identificar los procesos de diálogo cultural desarrollados por el factor español Manuel de Agote durante su intento de mejorar el conocimiento sobre China y cartografiar distintos enclaves del sur. Así se analizarán diferentes series de dibujos vinculados con su figura, desde los incorporados a sus diarios hasta los de deidades chinas pasando por mapas. A partir de aquí se pretende valorar su aportación dentro del contexto más amplio de la presencia europea en la zona.

Manuel Agote, faktore espainiarrak, Txinari buruzko bere ezagutza areagotu eta hegoaldeko zenbait leku kartografiatu asmoz garatutako kultur elkarrizketa prozesuen berri eman nahi da artikulu honetan. Horrela aztertuko dira bere irudiarekin lotutako marrazki sortak, bere egunerokoetan sartutakoez gain, jainko txinarrenak eta mapenak. Hemendik abiatuz balioztatu nahi da bere ekarpena inguru hartako europar presentziaren testuinguru zabalagoan.

This paper tries to identify the processes of cultural dialogue developed by the Spanish agent Manuel Agote during his attempt to improve the existing knowledge on China mapping the South. For this, different drawings linked to his work will be analyzed: from those included in his diaries to the collection of Chinese deities and maps. From here, this paper aims to evaluate his contribution within the wider context of the European presence in the zone.
