La pintura y las artes ornamentales en la Sevilla medieval

Abstract

En este artículo analizamos la pintura y las artes ornamentales medievales en Sevilla, desde la reconquista de la ciudad por Fernando III el Santo, en 1248, hasta los años finales del Cuatrocientos. En el campo pictórico estudiamos las principales obras y los artistas conocidos más importantes del momento. Entre las pinturas destaca la trilogía de imágenes marianas del siglo XIV, repartidas por distintos templos de la ciudad: la Virgen de la Antigua , la Virgen de Rocamador y la Virgen del Coral . En cuanto a los autores sobresalen, en la siguiente centuria, García Fernández, Juan de Sevilla, Juan Sánchez de Castro o el Maestro de Zafra. Respecto a las artes ornamentales, entresacamos las piezas de orfebrería, cerámica y bordado más significativas del citado periodo.

In this article we analize the painting and the ornamental arts of the Middle Age in Seville, from the conquest by St. Ferdinand III (1248) to the final years of the XIVth cent. Among the paintings of that time, three paintings of the Virgin Mary stand out: Out Lady of Antigua (in Seville Cathedral), Our Lady of Rocamador (in St. Laurence Church) and Out Lady of the Coral (in St. Ildefonse Church). Among the artists, in the following century García Fernández, Juan de Sevilla, Juan Sánchez de Castro (known as the Master of Zafra) stand out. In the ornamental arts, works in gold and silver, ceramics and embroidery are more important in that period
