Microestructura del esmalte en los incisivos de roedores. I. Variaciones con la edad

Abstract

En preparaciones microscópicas con cortes longitudinales de incisivos superiores e inferiores de Rattus novergicus var. albina. se miden una serie de parámetros definidos por Korvenkontio, 1934: Espesor de esmalte externo (EE), espesor del esmalte interno (El), anchura de las bandas (Z), ángulo que forman con la línea de separación dentina esmalte ( ), e índice del esmalte (lE). Se utilizaron 36 ejemplares repartidos en tres lotes de 12 individuos cada uno con 5, 10 y 19 semanas de edad. Todas las medidas se realizaron sobre fotografias y siempre que fue posible, se repitieron tres veces en diferentes zonas de la fotografía. Los resultados obtenidos muestran que el ritmo de crecimiento en incisivos superior e inferior es distinto. En el primero, no varían con la edad, la anchura de las bandas, el ángulo que forman y el indice de esmalte, mientras que el espesor del esmalte, tanto interno como externo, crece con la edad. En el inferior, no vadan la anchura de las bandas y el ángulo que forman. Tampoco varía significativamente el espesor del esmalte externo, mientras que el interno aumenta a medida que crece el animal. El índice de esmalte, por lo dicho anteriormente, disminuye con la edad.

In microscopic preparations of upper and lower incisor of Rattus novergicus var. albina with longitudinal cuts, a series of parameters determined by Korvenkontio, 1934, are measured: thickness of the external enamel (EE), thickness of the internal enamel (El), width of the bands (Z), angle formed by the enamel dentine dividing line ( α ), and the enamel index (lE). Thirty six specimens were used, divided in three groups of 12 each, of 5,10 and 19 weeks of age. All measurements were taken on photographs and, whenever possible, they were repeated three times on different areas of the photographs. The results show that the growth rhythm of the upper and lower incisors is different. In the upper, the width of the bands, the angle formed and the enamel index do not vary with the age, whereas the enamel thickness, both internal and external, grows with the age. In the lower, the width of the bands and the angle formed do not change; neither does, to a significant extent, the external enamel thickness, whereas the internal thickens as the animal grows. From the foresaid, it derives that the enamel index lessens with the age.
