Entre el mito y el icono. Análisis crítico de la obra de Angela Davis "Mujeres, raza y clase"

Abstract

El propósito del presente trabajo es llevar a cabo un análisis acerca de la figura de Angela Davis, activista afroamericana que formó parte de los movimientos por los derechos civiles en la década de los 60 y 70 en los Estados Unidos. A través de su pensamiento y autobiografía, atendiendo al contexto y valorando su posición como mujer feminista y negra, y su postura como partícipe y militante del Partido Comunista, se busca comprender la aportación filosófica y política de su figura y su obra. El siguiente análisis se centra principalmente en su obra Mujeres, raza y clase con el fin de valorar su influencia socio-política. Angela Davis considera la lucha de clases y el feminismo como dos movimientos complementarios que utiliza como vector de crítica hacia el control que ejerce el poder político, económico y social. La hipótesis que asume este trabajo es en qué medida ese mismo sistema ha mercantilizado su imagen y su obra, reduciéndolas en ocasiones al mito, y en otras al icono, con el fin de hacer diluir su contenido político.

The purpose of the present work is to carry out the analysis of the figure of Angela Davis, an african american activist who was a member of the movement for the civil rights in the decade of 60s and 70s in the United States. Through her work, her thinking and her autobiography, attending to the context and valuing her position as a feminist black woman, participant and militant of the Communist Party, it’s sought to understand her Political and filosofical input of her work and figure. The following analysis is mainly focused in her book Women, Race and class, with the purpose of valuing her social-political influence. Angela Davis considers class struggle and feminism as two complementary movements that she uses as a critical vector towards the control exerted by the Political, economical and social power. The hypothesis of this work is to assume how that system itself has commercialized her image and her work, cutting them out sometimes into the myth, and sometimes into the icon, with the purpose of dilute her Political content.
