Reconstruir la historia del turismo a través de la prensa: la evolución del espacio turístico de Sevilla (1915-2015)

Abstract

Sevilla representa uno de los destinos turísticos urbanos más significativos de España. Sin embargo, dicha relevancia no se ve acompañada de una literatura científica equivalente. El objetivo de este artículo es explotar las fuentes hemerográficas (prensa y revistas) como base documental para reconstruir la historia del turismo de la ciudad de Sevilla y analizar la evolución de su espacio turístico desde principios del siglo XX hasta la actualidad. En total se recopilan 629 documentos en prensa, entre noticias, anuncios, reportajes y artículos de opinión; que se categorizan en los principales elementos del sistema turístico: accesos y movilidad, alojamiento, demanda, recursos monumentales y oferta complementaria, y política turística. La reconstrucción histórica se ha sintetizado en 7 grandes etapas, permitiendo describir y cartografiar la trayectoria histórica del turismo en la ciudad. Este documento es una contribución inédita en Sevilla y una aportación complementaria a estudios análogos en otros destinos urbanos.

Seville is one of the most significant urban tourist destinations in Spain. However, this relevance is not accompanied by an equivalent scientific literature. The goal of this paper is to take advantage of hemerographic sources (press and magazines) in order to reconstruct the history of tourism in the city and analyze the evolution of its tourist areas from the beginning of the 20th century to the present. A total of 629 documents are collected in the press, including news, announcements, reports and opinion articles; which are categorized into the main elements of the tourism system: access and mobility, accommodation, demand, monumental resources and complementary offer, and tourism policy. The historical reconstruction has been synthesized in 7 major stages, describing and mapping the historical trajectory of tourism in the city. This document is an unprecedented contribution in Seville and complementary to similar studies in other urban destinations.
