Las sedes universitarias de Sevilla en la construcción de la ciudad

Abstract

La Tesis se centra en la investigación de las relaciones arquitectónicas entre la ciudad de Sevilla y sus sedes universitarias históricas. Se analizan las intervenciones realizadas en las tres sedes de la Universidad de Sevilla (el Colegio de Santa María de Jesús, la Casa Profesa de la Compañía de Jesús y la Real Fábrica de Tabacos), así como las transformaciones de los centros universitarios eclesiásticos más importantes con los que contó la ciudad (el Colegio dominico de Santo Tomás y el Colegio jesuita de San Hermenegildo) y del claustro del convento de Madre de Dios -donde se estableció a finales del XIX la Escuela de Medicina incorporándose un estudio arquitectónico de las tentativas de crecimiento de la Universidad Hispalense llevadas a cabo en la primera mitad del siglo XX. Las sedes universitarias históricas de Sevilla constituyen un apartado imprescindible para la comprensión de algunas de las grandes transformaciones que la ciudad ha experimentado durante el siglo XX, como la apertura de la Avenida de la Constitución o la creación de la plaza de la Concordia.

The thesis investigates the architectural relationship between the city of Seville and its historical University buildings. It is analyzed the interventions which were carried out in the three places of the University of Seville (the College of Santa María de Jesús, the Professed House of the Company of Jesus and the Royal Tobacco Factory). We study the transformations of the most important ecclesiastical centers that the city counted (the Dominican College of St. Thomas and the Jesuit College of San Hermenegildo) and the cloister of the convent of Madre de Dios, where the School of medicine was established at the end of the 19th. The work incorporates an architectural study of the attempts of growth of the University of Seville in the first half of the 20th century. The historical university buildings of Seville are an essential matter for the understanding of some of the major changes that the city has experienced in the 20th century, such as the opening of the Constitution Avenue and the creation of the Concordia Square.
