El doble meandro abandonado del Guadalquivir en Cantillana (Sevilla): cambios de trazado y evolución geomorfológica

Abstract

En este trabajo se pone de manifiesto la evolución que experimenta el doble meandro del río Guadalquivir en Cantillana (Sevilla), en la última fase de su historia fluvial. Considerado un meandro de amplia evolución cuaternaria y trazado mendriforme al menos desde el final del Holoceno, inicia su proceso de abandono tras el acortamiento que experimenta a mediados del siglo XX. Este proceso de acortamiento en el que se constata la influencia de su principal afluente, el río Viar, se ejecuta por desbordamiento, retomando así la funcionalidad antiguos paleocauces situados en la llanura de inundación. Su fase de transición al abandono ha de considerarse de rango temporal corto, aún cuando sigue recobrando parcialmente su funcionalidad hidrológica en momentos de avenidas.

This paper shows the evolution of the double meander of the Guadalquivir River in Cantillana (Seville) during the last stage of its fluvial history. Regarded as a river of great quaternary evolution, it presents a winding course since the end of the Holocene. Its process of inactivy began in the mid-20th century due to the overflowing of its main tributary, the Viar River, which made several paleochannels on the flood plain functional again. Its transition stage should be considered short-termed since the river recovers its functionality at times of the floods.
