Actitudes hacia la diversidad sexual en el deporte : análisis de la situación entre estudiantes universitarios

Abstract

El deporte se ha convertido en uno de los últimos bastiones de la sociedad patriarcal y heteronormativa. Tradicionalmente el deporte ha sido un espacio de dominio del hombre heterosexual, donde mujeres y hombres con diversas orientaciones sexuales no tenían cabida, siendo atacados, acosado y agredidos aquellos que osaban mostrar la diversidad de orientación sexual cuestionando la ‘normalidad patriarcal heterosexista’. En los últimos años, la sociedad española ha cambiado, creándose un clima más tolerante y respetuoso con la diversidad, sin embargo no existen estudios que analicen esta situación en el deporte. El objetivo del estudio es conocer las opiniones y posicionamientos de un grupo de jóvenes practicantes deportivos hacia la diversidad sexual en el deporte. Para ello se ha elaborado una escala de medición de las actitudes hacia la diversidad sexual entre los/as deportistas. En el estudio participan 231 estudiantes de la Universidad de Sevilla de carreras vinculadas al deporte. Los resultados demuestran la existencia de un clima positivo hacia la diversidad sexual entre los estudiantes, teniendo actitudes más positivas las mujeres que los hombres. Sigue existiendo un pequeño grupo de estudiantes que presentan actitudes negativas hacia la diversidad, haciéndose necesarias actuaciones para eliminar este bastión heterosexista.

Sport has become one of the main bastions of patriarchal and heteronormative society. Traditionally, sport has been within heterosexual men’s dominance and women and men with diverse sexual orientations were ignored. They were abused, harassed and attacked because they tried to show this diverse sexual orientation questioning then the ‘heterosexist patriarchal standard’. In recent years, Spanish society has changed. A new tolerant and respectful environment towards diversity has emerged. Nevertheless, there are no studies which analyse this situation in sport. The aim of this study is to know the opinions and orientations of a group of sportive young people towards sexual diversity in sport. That is the reason why a scale to measure these attitudes towards sexual diversity among sportsmen/women has been created. There are 231 Universidad de Sevilla students of sport-related degrees who participate in this study. Results prove the existence of a positive environment towards sexual diversity among students and that women have more positive attitudes than men. It is still observed that there is a group of students who show negative attitudes towards diversity and that some action is needed in order to eliminate this heterosexist bastion.
