Mujeres de la domus Augusta: Octavia Minor, Julia Augusti y Livia Drusila

Abstract

El presente trabajo trata de analizar cómo fueron las vidas de las tres mujeres más importantes de la domus Augusta y el tratamiento que se les ha dado en la investigación histórica. El objetivo es demostrar el valioso papel que jugaron Octavia la Menor, Julia Augusti y Livia Drusila en el gobierno de Augusto y la sucesión imperial. Para ello, se ha analizado cómo fueron utilizadas como propaganda a favor del régimen de Augusto, los privilegios y honores de los que gozaron, su papel y acciones en la vida pública, la influencia mutua y sobre Augusto que tuvieron cada una, la visión que tenía la sociedad de la época sobre ella, su crucial función como madres de los herederos del emperador… Además, se ha tratado de resumir mediante ejemplos, de más antiguo a más actual, qué se ha escrito sobre ella, cómo se han estudiado sus vidas y la imagen que ha llegado a nuestros días de cada una. Por último, una breve síntesis de las conclusiones que se han obtenido tras la realización del trabajo, los objetivos previos que se han cumplido y otros que se han desmentido.

This paper attempts to analyze the lives of the three most important women of the domus Augusta and their treatment in historical research. The aim is to demonstrate the valuable role played by Octavia the Younger, Julia Augusti and Livia Drusilla in the government of Augustus and the imperial succession. For this purpose, it has been analyzed how they were used as propaganda in favor of Augustus' regime, the privileges and honors they enjoyed, their role and actions in public life, the influence they each had on each other and on Augustus, the vision that the society of the time had of them, their crucial function as mothers of the emperor's heirs... In addition, it has been tried to summarize through examples, from the oldest to the most current, what has been written about them, how their lives have been studied and the image that has reached our days of each one of them. Finally, a brief synthesis of the conclusions that have been obtained after the realization of the work, the previous objectives that have been fulfilled and others that have been denied.
