The following work constitutes an attempt to approach Juan Ramón Jiménez’s ultimate god. The following work constitutes an attempt to approach Juan Ramón Jiménez’s ultimate god. For this I will part from the Platonic faith in Ideas and the faith shared by the poet towards what he senses as eternal, as are the ideas themselves, his god. Governed throughout his life by pursuing beauty, in the confidence that ideas such as truth and justice emanate from there, it will also be essential to investigate the influence of religious modernism and Krausism as they constitute, united, the same direction and sense of freedom towards art and, also, therefore, represent the fundamental base on which Juan Ramón’s god is erected. For Moguer, poetry is a supreme symbol, or should be, of freedom and beauty. His aspiration to them will lead him to live mystical experiences, which lead to a poetic god. Beautiful, fair, true. If only for love, perhaps the only possible god in poetry. |
