Due to its great historical journey, each matsuri has its own characteristics, which makes it very difficult to understand this concept globally. It will begin with a brief investigation of the origins of the word "matsuri" in ancient bronzes and stamps belonging to Chinese culture. Next, the particularities and important elements that characterize a matsuri will be analyzed, distinguishing it from other daily festivities. We will also try to study the importance of the influences of indigenous religion and theatrical manifestations within the matsuri, as well as the changes produced from a traditional to a modern matsuri.
