Habitar el mediterráneo. La casa mediterránea en la obra de Aris Konstantinidis

Abstract

El archipiélago griego, Italia, Croacia, Egipto, la costa Norte de África, las costas Sur y Este de España, así como las Islas Baleares... países derivados de una misma civilización, sin apenas variaciones climáticas y por lo tanto unas arquitecturas populares semejantes. El presente Trabajo Fin de Grado pretende analizar la influencia que ejerce el Mar Mediterráneo sobre las cualidades arquitectónicas de las edificaciones de su litoral. La arquitectura vernácula mediterránea se caracteriza por una serie de valores y cualidades formales que no siempre han sido apreciadas como tales. Durante mucho tiempo todo cuanto tenía que ver con lo popular fue considerado como un elemento propio de culturas atrasadas y, por tanto, poco digno de ser estudiado o analizado. Ese fue el caso de la arquitectura autóctona del mediterráneo, que pasó de ser una desconocida para la cultura centroeuropea a ser percibida como un elemento de interés tanto arquitectónico como artístico en el siglo XX. La investigación se inicia de manera teórica, analizando el hábitat tradicional mediterráneo para entender cómo la arquitectura popular de esta región llegó a convertirse en una referencia importante en el panorama cultural internacional. Finalmente se expone y analiza la figura de Aris Konstantinidis, quien fue uno de los arquitectos de mayor prestigio en el movimiento moderno griego, con una trayectoria profesional que destacó, entre otras cuestiones, por la construcción de varios edificios con una clara inclinación mediterránea. El objetivo es aproximarnos a casos concretos del arquitecto y a su obra tanto construida como escrita, que constituyen un ejemplo de la síntesis entre lo vernáculo y la arquitectura moderna, y relacionarlos con otros proyectos destacables de la cuenca.

The Greek archipelago, Italy, Croatia, Egypt, the North African coast, the South and East coasts of Spain, as well as the Balearic Islands... countries derived from the same civilisation, with hardly any climatic variations and therefore similar popular architectures. This Final Degree Project aims to analyse the influence exerted by the Mediterranean Sea on the architectural qualities of the buildings along its coastline. Mediterranean vernacular architecture is characterised by a series of values and formal qualities that have not always been appreciated as such. For a long time, everything that had to do with popular architecture was considered as an element belonging to backward cultures and, therefore, not worthy of being studied or analysed. This was the case with the indigenous architecture of the Mediterranean, which went from being unknown to Central European culture to being perceived as an element of both architectural and artistic interest in the 20th century. The research begins theoretically, analysing the traditional Mediterranean habitat in order to understand how the popular architecture of this region came to become an important reference in the international cultural panorama. Finally, the figure of Aris Konstantinidis, who was one of the most prestigious architects in the modern Greek movement, with a professional career that stood out, among other issues, by the construction of several buildings with a clear Mediterranean inclination. The objective is to approach concrete cases of the architect and his work both built and written, which constitute an example of the synthesis between vernacular and modern architecture, and to relate them with other remarkable projects of the basin.
