El juicio estético ante imágenes hirientes. El caso de la fotografía de Aylan Kurdi

Abstract

Este trabajo reflexiona sobre el problema de la experiencia estética cuando el espectador se enfrenta a imágenes hirientes, que muestran más horror del que visual y emocionalmente podemos soportar. Como el horror está motivado por el contenido de la escena, el juicio que se hace es de tipo ético, mientras el estético, centrado en aspectos formales y supuestamente superficiales, se desecha. Tomando como caso de estudio la fotografía de Aylan Kurdi (2015), el niño sirio aparecido muerto en una playa turca, aquí se rescata ese juicio estético, concretado en la percepción sensible y afectiva de la imagen, y se demuestra su enorme influencia en la comprensión del fondo y el juicio ético.

This paper reflects on the problem of aesthetic experience when the viewer is confronted with hurtful images, which show us more horror than we can visually and emotionally endure. As horror is caused by the content of the scene, the judgment is ethical, while the aesthetic one, focused on formal and supposedly superficial aspects, is firmly rejected. Taking as a case study the photograph of Aylan Kurdi (2015), the Syrian child appeared drowned on a Turkish beach, here we rescue that aesthetic judgment, expressed in the sensitive and affective perception of the image, and we emonstrate its great influence in the understanding of the content and in the ethical judgment too.
