[Re]habitar la bodega en Jerez de la Frontera

Abstract

El amplio bagaje de la historia de Jerez y su crecimiento urbano se encuentran fuertemente ligados a la cultura del vino y a la gran actividad comercial que genera. Es a partir de los siglos XVIII y XIX, con la revolución industrial, cuando la evolución morfológica de los espacios bodegueros fue mutando a espacios urbanos de funcionamiento autónomo. Las primeras bodegas, que en el siglo XVII funcionaban como pequeñas edificaciones anexas a viviendas privadas pasaron en el siglo XIX a formar complejos bodegueros de grandes superficies industriales en el interior del casco histórico de Jerez, dando lugar a la ciudad-bodega. El patrimonio industrial de la ciudad, traducido en bodegas, junto al paisaje urbano que lo acompaña, han permitido considerar esta zona como espacio cultural. Sin embargo, toda esta importancia histórica y cultural entra en conflicto con la situación de decadencia que viven muchas bodegas, la cual, ha provocado que muchas de estas edificaciones sean derrumbadas derivando en una pérdida de identidad de la ciudad. Entender el porqué de su existencia y su morfología es indispensable para comprender su importancia en la historia de la ciudad. Este trabajo pretende, en primer lugar, revalorizar el paisaje urbano creado por estas edificaciones en el marco de Jerez, más concretamente en su casco urbano, generando una contextualización histórica, urbana y tipológica de las bodegas. En segundo lugar, se pretende analizar la evolución de estos espacios e intervenciones realizadas en ellos para, finalmente, plantear nuevos modelos de uso para la conservación del conjunto.

The extensive history of Jerez and its urban growth are strongly linked to the culture of wine and the great commercial activity it generates. It was from the 18th and 19th centuries, with the industrial revolution, that the morphological evolution of the winery spaces began to mutate into autonomous urban spaces. The first wineries, which in the 17th century functioned as small buildings attached to private dwellings, became, in the 19th century, winery complexes with large industrial areas within the historic centre of Jerez, giving rise to the city-winery. The city's industrial heritage, translated into wineries, as well as the urban landscape that accompanies it, have made it possible to consider this area as a cultural space. However, all this historical and cultural importance comes into conflict with the situation of decadence that many wineries are experiencing, which has caused many of these buildings to be demolished, resulting in a loss of the city's identity. Understanding the reasons for their existence and their morphology is essential for understanding their importance in the history of the city. This work aims, firstly, to revalue the urban landscape created by these buildings in the Jerez area, more specifically in the city centre, generating a historical, urban and typological contextualisation of the bodegas. Secondly, the aim is to analyse the evolution of these spaces and the interventions carried out in them and, finally, to propose new models of use for the conservation of the complex.
