dc.description.abstract | This research and experimental work reports sliding wear performances of various steel bars during a
linear movement by the use of a tribo-tester.
Taking as a starting point, friction and wear are studied, from these, their derived effects by adhesion,
abrasion, fatigue, or erosion. After studying tribology as a science, the different wear methodologies
between different surfaces and materials are detailed. Both the contact surfaces in wear and the way in
which they interact are of significant importance, giving different results those of punctual contact and
those of linear or superficial contact. In addition, the difference in results is contemplated depending on
whether they are metallic, ceramic, and polymeric contact systems.
The study is divided into two processes: one is a machining process by which the bars are obtained, and
the other is a derived process to run the tests where wear resistance is evaluated through weight loss
during a tribology study.
The bars will be fabricated under certain specific mechanical conditions that will vary from one bar to
another, making it a total of six bars with three different surface roughness. The cutting conditions are
taken from the cutting parameters provided by the machine, the lathe, the dimensions of the bars and
the previously selected arithmetic mean roughness values.
There will be tests under which the bars will have a liquid lubricant applied to see the effects of a lubricant
in the results. The sliding wear will be simulated as a Pin-on-Disk tribo-tester; however, a lever
mechanism will be used to transform the rotation produced by the tribo-tester into a linear motion. This
way it will be managed to work with a linear movement. The operating conditions under which the tests
will take place are an applied load (30N), sliding speed (10cm/s) and sliding distance (42m).
The results show that for bars under lubricated conditions there is an increase in weight loss, it will also
reflect that for higher initial surface roughness under dry conditions it will result in smoother surface
outcomes. | es |
