Cantillana y la potencialidad turística del sistema de hermandades de mitad

Abstract

Cantillana es un municipio de Sevilla que cuenta con un peculiar sistema de hermandades, conocido como hermandades semicomunales, o hermandades de mitad. Cuando hablamos de este sistema, hacemos referencia a un modelo que estructura a la sociedad en dos mitades antagónicas. Así, el pueblo de Cantillana se divide en asuncionistas y pastoreños. Pero esta división no es la única particularidad que caracteriza a este tipo de hermandades, pues también se dan fenómenos como la adscripción automática, o matrilinaje, un término que explica por qué nacer implica pertenecer a la hermandad de la madre. En este trabajo se tratará de dar a conocer esta localidad, introduciéndonos en sus raíces históricas, así como analizar con mayor detenimiento cómo opera este sistema en esta sociedad. Por último, hablaremos del turismo que atraen las fiestas religiosas de este pueblo, que tienen lugar en agosto y septiembre, y reflexionaremos acerca de la potencialidad turística de este sistema de hermandades.

Cantillana is a municipality in Seville that has a peculiar system of brotherhoods, known as semi-comunal brotherhoods, or half brotherhoods. When we speak of this system, we refer to a model that structures society into two antagonistic halves. Thus, the people of Cantillana are divided into asuncionistas and pastoreños. However, this division is not the only particularity that characterizes this type of brotherhoods, so that there are also phenomena such as automatic adscription, or matrilinage, a term that explains why being born implies belonging to the mother’s brotherhood. In this paper we will try to make this locality known, introducing us to its historical roots, as well as to analyze deeply how this system operates in this society. Finally, we will talk about the tourism attracted by the religious festivals of this town, which take place in August and September, and we will reflect on the tourist potential of this system of brotherhoods.
