Investigar sobre prostitución: complejidad del objeto, marcos analíticos y controversias

Abstract

Este artículo expone las claves que dificultan la indagación sociológica sobre la prostitución, los enfoques o marcos que se adoptan para ello, las fricciones que mantienen los principales enfoques y los retos que tiene ante sí el estudio científicosocial del fenómeno. Investigar sobre prostitución plantea dificultades por lo complejo y controvertido que resulta dicho objeto, por lo distintas que son las perspectivas desde las que se estudia y por el desafío que supone tratar de evadirse de las disputas morales e ideológicas asociadas a esta práctica social desde sus orígenes. Adoptando una posición objetiva y suficientemente distanciada, este trabajo quiere superar la controversia permanente que domina el debate académico.

This article sets out the key factors that impede sociological inquiry into prostitution, the approaches and frameworks adopted for this purpose, the frictions affecting the main approaches taken, and the challenges facing the scientific-social study of the phenomenon. Investigating prostitution poses difficulties because of the complex and controversial nature of this subject, the different perspectives from which it is studied, and the challenge of trying to avoid the moral and ideological disputes associated with this social practice from its origins. By adopting an objective and sufficiently detached position, this paper seeks to overcome the permanent controversy that dominates academic debate on this subject.
