Del sujeto al objeto: dibujos inéditos de Allen Jones y su relación con el arte español

Abstract

El pop fue el movimiento que cambió el curso de la historia del arte reciente, su mirada frívola desencadenó lo que acabaría entendiéndose como posmodernidad. Parte de esta responsabilidad la tiene Allen Jones (Southampton, 1937), uno de los grandes representantes del arte británico de la última mitad de siglo. Formado en el Royal College of Art de Londres, fue expulsado como correctivo por su comportamiento díscolo. En este artículo desarrollamos parte de los intereses que aparecen en su obra, atendiendo a unos dibujos realizados en la década de los 60 en diferentes agendas y cuadernos de notas. Estos apuntes, rescatados de once agendas del archivo de la Tate Britain, nunca han sido publicados con anterioridad. Muchos son bocetos preparatorios para obras posteriores mundialmente conocidas, pero ahora, por primera vez, tenemos la oportunidad de conocerlos. A través de estos dibujos inéditos contextualizaremos la especial importancia que cobra la relación entre objeto y sujeto en la obra de Allen Jones. Para ello, nos apoyaremos en unos dibujos que Jones realiza sobre un cuadro de Margarita de Austria de Velázquez. Por último, señalaremos la trascendencia que tendrá su trabajo para los integrantes de la Nueva Figuración Madrileña de los 70.

The pop movement changed the course of recent art history. Its frivolous take on things triggered what would end up being referred to as postmodernism. Allen Jones (Southampton, 1937) was in part responsible for this, he was one of the great exponents of British art during the second half of the 20th century. Formed at the Royal College of Art of London, from where he was expelled due to his rebel behavior. In this article we will develop part of the interests that emerge in his work when focusing on some drawings made during the 60´s in different diaries and notebooks. These drawings, rescue from eleven diaries from the Tate Britain archive, have never been published before. Many of them are preparatory sketches for works that were then known worldwide and now, for the first time, we have the opportunity to know them. Through these unpublished drawings we will contextualize the special importance of the relationship between object and subject in Allen Jones´s work. For this, we will rely on some drawings that Jones makes on a painting of Margarita of Austria by Velázquez. Finally, we will stress the importance of Jones´s figure for the member of the New Spanish Figuration in the 70´s.
