El patrimonio fotográfico en negativo: pautas para su identificación, diagnosis y conservación preventiva

Abstract

El patrimonio fotográfico es uno de los patrimonios culturales más recientes y extensos, por lo que su área de trabajo es territorio relativamente nuevo, y lucha por poder tener el reconocimiento que merece y establecerse como tal. El papel que juega la sociedad y los profesionales del ámbito cultural frente a la importancia que se le dan a estos objetos es fundamental. Y es justamente, dentro del ámbito profesional, donde todavía hay carencias en la normalización de aquellos aspectos inherentes a su documentación, recopilación, conservación y uso, que afectan como se transmiten estos objetos a la sociedad. Para hacer frente a cuestión, en este trabajo de fin de grado se busca describir lo que es y conforma un tipo muy concreto del patrimonio fotográfico; concretamente, el constituido por el negativo tradicional. Para ello, se abordan cuestiones sobre su identificación haciendo énfasis en los diferentes procedimientos fotográficos sobre soportes tradicionales como lo son el papel, vidrio y plástico; al igual que su diagnóstico a través de la evaluación de los diversos agentes de deterioro que inciden sobre ellos y el reconocimiento de las alteraciones más frecuentes en cada tipo de negativo. Además de establecer y describir las pautas básicas para su conservación preventiva en archivos y museos, abarcando las condiciones ambientales y lumínicas idóneas, el almacenamiento, la manipulación, e incluso digitalización de este tipo de colecciones. Toda la información obtenida de interés se ha volcado en el diseño de una “ficha de documentación” diseñada en específico para este tipo de patrimonio, que normaliza la información, estandariza las cuestiones y facilita el trabajo de los profesionales cuando se vean frente a colecciones de negativos fotográficos en blanco y negro o a color. Igualmente, esta ficha irá acompañada de una “tabla guía” a modo de resumen en la que se recogen los resultados de la investigación efectuada. Para finalizar, se implementarán los resultados obtenidos en la evaluación de los instrumentos de normalización desarrollados (ficha de documentación y tabla guía) a partir del caso práctico de estudio desarrollado para corroborar su eficiencia.

Photographic heritage is one of the most recent and extensive ones within the cultural heritage in general. Therefore, its area of expertise is relatively new territory, and it struggles to gain the recognition it deserves and to establish itself as such. Society and cultural heritage’s professionals play a fundamental role in relation to the importance given to these objets. And so, it is precisely within the professional field where are scarcities in the standardization of those aspects inherent to their documentation, collection, conservation and use, which affect how these objects are transmitted to society. In order to address this issue, this paper seeks to describe what is and what makes up a very specific type of photographic heritage; specifically, the one constituted by the traditional negative photographs. To this end, questions about their identification are addressed, emphasizing the different photographic procedures on traditional supports such as paper, glass and plastic, as well as their diagnosis through the evaluation of the various agents of deterioration that affect them and the recognition of the most frequent alterations in each type of negative. In addition to establishing and describing the basic guidelines for their preventive conservation in archives and museums, covering the ideal environmental and lighting conditions, storage, handling, and even digitization of this type of collections. All the information of interest obtained has been included in the design of a "documentation file card" specifically designed for this type of heritage, which standardizes the information, the issues and facilitates the work of professionals when they are faced with collections of black and white or color photographic negatives. This documentation file card will also be accompanied by a "guide table" as a summary of the results of the research carried out. Finally, the results obtained in the evaluation of the standardization tools developed (documentation file card and guide table) will be implemented on the basis of the practical case study developed to corroborate their efficiency.
