nuevas relaciones. | es |
dc.description.abstract | Aim: The present study has as its main objective the clinical characterization of patients in
Dentistry. This characterization includes demographics, lifestyle and medical condition of the
patient, as well as the collection of comprehensive data and the creation of a database for
processing. In addition, as specific objectives are: the description of antecedents of interest in
the menopausal population and the analysis of the relationship between the menopausal
population and different variables (tobacco consumption, alcohol consumption, allergies,
history of hypertension and cancer, gastritis and consumption of antibiotics and antiseptics).
Materials and Methods: An observational descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out
with 56 female patients> 40 years of age who fulfilled the selection criteria established in the
study. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson's Chi-square test.
Results: The mean age of the women studied was 58.76 ± 12.43 years, with the majority of
surveyed being under 60 years of age (53.57%). When comparing the menopausal stages and
correlating them with the smoking habit, it is obtained that the variables are independent. The
same occurs with alcohol consumption where no significant differences are observed. The
relationship of allergies or the fact of suffering from gastritis have not obtained significance
values with menopause either. To this we add that a history of hypertension and the
consumption of antibiotics and antiseptics are not related to changes or stages of menopause.
On the other hand, statistical significance appears in the case of a history of cancer (P = 0.03),
where the highest percentage occurs in the group of postmenopausal patients with a history of
cancer (52.82%), but it cannot be considered that be a risk factor OR = 0.25 (OR <1).
Conclusions: Of all the study variables, we only see a significant relationship between the
different stages of menopause and a history of cancer. Especially conditioned by the age of the
patients, which means greater knowledge of them and more time of exposure to hormonal
changes. | es |
