dc.description.abstract | Breathing is a basic life function and is essential for correct craniofacial growth, because it
influences the development and position of the maxilla, mandible, tongue and respiratory
space. When there is an obstacle that hinders normal breathing, there is a change in the
breathing pattern to mouth or oral breathing.
Different studies show that oral respiration produces characteristic facial, dental and skeletal
changes, with mouth breathers presenting the syndrome known as "adenoid facies" or "long
face". The most relevant alterations occur at the craniofacial and postural level, not only
affecting the head, but also the cervical spine and body posture.
It is therefore of vital importance to intercept the habit early and treat it in order to avoid the
serious problems it causes in the development of the different structures. | es |
