Las ciudades de Sevilla y Toledo en la conexión de las redes económicas judeoconversas entre Castilla y América a mediados del siglo XVI

Abstract

Este trabajo constituye una aportación al conocimiento del papel jugado por las familias de mercaderes conversos de Toledo conectando los principales centros económicos de Castilla y las Indias durante el reinado del Emperador. Se trata de un tema poco transitado por la historiografía, más interesada en otros grupos más llamativos, como los genoveses, portugueses o flamencos. Sin embargo, y teniendo en cuenta la importancia de las redes organizadas por los conversos toledanos, este trabajo representa una aportación parcial para una mejor comprensión de la evolución económica de España en esa época

In this paper the author studies the role of the converso merchants of Toledo connecting the main economic centers of Castile with the Indies during the Emperor's age. Frequently, the historiography payed attention to other groups of businessmen, Iike the genoese, the portuguese or the fiemish, but the converso families ofToledo :md their key role as intermediaries between Spain :md Spanish AmeriCll are not well-known yet. Thus, this reseuch contributes to understand better the economic evolution of Spain during the 16th century
