El Siheyuan de Pekín. Tradición, transformación e identidad cultural

Abstract

El sìhéyuàn, literalmente patio rodeado por construcciones en sus cuatro lados, es una vivienda tradicional de Pekín. Se trata de una casa con forma simétrica y con un patio como elemento central que está influenciada en gran medida por el confucianismo e ideas geománticas ancestrales presentes en el fēngshuǐ. El objetivo es profundizar en el sìhéyuàn desde dos periodos históricos distintos; uno antes de 1950 y otro a partir de este. En el primero se busca entender cómo se relaciona el confucianismo y el fēngshuǐ en la configuración del sìhéyuàn, mientras que el segundo, se centra en ahondar en los problemas surgidos en torno al sìhéyuàn a partir de la proclamación de la República Popular China y que han dificultado su conservación. Para ello se describen los elementos que reciben influencia en el sìhéyuàn tanto del confucianismo como del fēngshuǐ y se analizan dos de los problemas surgidos a partir de 1950 para la conservación del sìhéyuàn, en concreto la demolición y el fenómeno conocido como dàzáyuàn. Los resultados muestran que a partir de la proclamación de la República Popular China se ha producido una rápida desnaturalización de los sìhéyuàn, de modo que se han alterado sustancialmente sus usos y simbología, y por tanto se han perdido en buena medida rasgos que lo identificaban con el confucianismo y el fēngshuǐ.

The sìhéyuàn, literally a courtyard surrounded by buildings on all four sides, is the Chinese traditional dwelling of Beijing. It’s a dwelling with a symmetrical shape and with a courtyard as a central element that is largely influenced by confucianism and ancient geomantic ideas present in fēngshuǐ. The objective is to deepen in the sìhéyuàn from two different historical periods; one before 1950 and other from this. The first seeks to understand how Confucianism and fēngshuǐ are related in the configuration of the sìhéyuàn, while the second focuses on delving into the problems that have arisen around the sìhéyuàn since the proclamation of the People’s Republic of China and that have made its conservation difficult. For this, the elements that are influenced in the sìhéyuàn by both confucianism and fēngshuǐ are described and two of the problems that arose from 1950 for the conservation of the sìhéyuàn are analyzed, such as demolition and the phenomenon known as dàzáyuàn. . The results shows that since the proclamation of the People’s Republic of China there has been a rapid denaturation of the sìhéyuàn, so that their uses and symbols have been substantially altered, and therefore features that identified them with confucianism and fēngshuǐ.
