La filosofía moral y política de Helvétius

Abstract

En el presente trabajo se procederá a analizar la teoría moral y política contenida en Del espíritu, una de las obras cumbres de Claude-Adrien Helvétius. A pesar de no ser un autor muy comentado, el ilustrado Helvétius logró sentar las bases del utilitarismo moderno e influir en autores como Jeremy Bentham. Para ello, será necesario examinar su teoría antropológica y descubrir que la ley del interés personal no sólo servirá para comprender el patrón que rige el comportamiento de los seres humanos, sino también, para proveer a los legisladores de los instrumentos pertinentes para establecer una legislación y proyecto educativo cuyo objetivo será el interés general y la felicidad de la nación.

In this work we will proceed to analyze the moral and political theory contained in Del Espiritu, one of the pinnacles works of Claude-Adrien Helvétius. Despite not being a very commented author, the enlightened Helvétius managed to lay the foundations of the modern utilitarianism and influence authors like Jeremy Bentham. To this end, it will be necessary to examine its anthropological theory and discover that the law of personal interest not only serves to understand the pattern governing the behavior of human beings, but also to provide legislators with relevant instruments to establish legislation and educational project whose objective will be the general interest and the happiness of the nation.
