"Meterse las manos en los bolsillos y echar a andar por el mundo". Manuel Chaves Nogales, la Tercera España frente a la polarización social durante la II República

Abstract

El objetivo principal del presente trabajo es demostrar que la figura del periodista sevillano Manuel Chaves Nogales formó parte del espectro político y social conocido como la Tercera España desde antes del estallido de la Guerra Civil. Para ello realizaremos una biografía de Manuel Chaves Nogales en la que se enmarque el momento histórico que le tocó vivir, su pensamiento y obra. Asimismo, a través de los artículos de Manuel Chaves Nogales enmarcados en el espacio temporal que abarca desde 1931-1936, analizaremos desde su propia perspectiva los principales acontecimientos que marcaron la Segunda República. Y, finalmente, a partir de un análisis del lenguaje empleado por el periodista en estos textos periodísticos, dilucidar el significado que Chaves otorgaba a ciertos términos de componente político e ideológico. A partir de esta investigación biográfica y fundamentalmente analítica del lenguaje, pretendemos reconstruir la mentalidad de Chaves en un periodo histórico tan complejo y convulso como fue la Segunda República Española para, en función de la misma, acertar a saber a qué espectro político y social pertenecía el periodista.

The principal aim of this work is demonstrates that the figure of the Sevillian journalist Manuel Chaves Nogales formed part of the political and social spectrum known as the Third Spain from before the outbreak of the Civil War. To this end, we will produce a biography of Manuel Chaves Nogales in which the historical moment in which he lived, his thought and his work will be framed. Likewise, through Manuel Chaves Nogales's articles framed in the period from 1931-1936, we will analyse the main events that marked the Second Republic from his own perspective. And, finally, by analysing the language used by the journalist in these journalistic texts, we will elucidate the meaning that Chaves gave to certain political and ideological terms. On the basis of this biographical and fundamentally language-analytical research, we aim to reconstruct Chaves's mentality in such a complex and convulsive historical period as the Second Spanish Republic in order, on the basis of this research, to find out to what political and social spectrum the journalist belonged.
