dc.description.abstract | Reliability is now required to be an intrinsic feature of products. In addition, they must perform
their functions safely, without excessive impact on the environment and be easy to maintain during
their useful life. Therefore, the decision to purchase a product cannot be based only on the
acquisition cost, but also on the operation and maintenance costs (cost ownership) expected during
its Life Cycle and the cost of disposal.
The Life Cycle Cost analysis is the process of collecting, interpreting, analyzing data, applying
tools and quantitative techniques to predict the necessary resources at any step in the Life Cycle
of a system of interest. It is intended to evaluate and quantify the total cost of an item during its
Life Cycle or part of it. Analysing the costs of a product from different perspectives, such as the
producer and the consumer, is also allowed.
As indicated in the title of this project, it is intended to quantify the total costs of the use phase of
a high-performance diesel engine. For this, the maintenance tasks, resources and variables that
intervene during the period of operation and maintenance of the engine will be defined. Likewise,
the economic impact of costs will be evaluated, proposing measures to reduce them. | es |
