dc.description.abstract | This project describes the application of photogrammetry in the creation of three-dimensional models from
photographs. The innovative developments in both computer systems and cameras have made this discipline
an essential tool for today’s cartography. In addition, the replacement of aeroplanes with RPAs has made
possible great savings in time and cost.
The aim of this project presents this type of photogrammetry through the Structure for Motion (SfM)
technology. With this technique, common characteristics between images are obtained from overlapping
photographs, enabling the creation of three-dimensional point clouds, orthophotos and digital elevation
models (DEMs). In order to bring to light this technique, photographs (141.11x105.83 cm) of two areas
near the old Lebrija castle are used, with the objective of carrying out a photogrammetric survey. For this
purpose, two software are used: a free software such as VisualSfM and a commercial software such as Agisoft
Metashape.
Once the models of the two areas have been obtained with these two software, their results are compared,
observing if the characteristics of the model with free software match the results of the model with commercial
software. In order to check both models, LiDAR data from the PNOA project (a technology currently used
to obtain digital terrain models) will be employed. The study uses a GIS software such as QGIS to make
comparisons after obtaining the data of each methodology.
The results in the comparative of the point clouds offer very similar data, with the greatest distance being
in the central surface of the zone 1 of study with distances between points lower than 1.5 m.. Regarding the
digital elevation models, few changes are obtained with respect to the LiDAR.The worst results are also found
in the central surface of zone 1 with differences of less than 1 m. And finally, the topographic profile made in
two sections of land shows small variations in areas of small vegetation with maximum deviations of 10 - 20
cm .
Therefore, both software offer quite similar models with slightly more precise results in the case of
Metashape since the variation with respect to the LiDAR is smaller (5 cm in most of its surface). The main
disadvantage of the free software is the time spent in generating the whole process. | es |
