dc.description.abstract | In this project we make a tridimensional study of an inverted pendulum type vehicle with the aim of using it as
an equipment for practical teaching in our School. This project was inspired by Problem-Based
Learning/Project-Based Learning (PBL).
To achieve our objective we started from former projects made by the Systems and Automation Engineering
Department, which have been focused on bidimensional study. When extending the bidimensional system to
the tridimensional one, we are increasing the problem complexity, allowing the use of this system in higher
teaching levels, and revealing vehicle’s behaviors and characteristics that were imperceptible in the two
dimensions model, and, that way, filling out the dynamic study.
In the first place, we define the physical parameters of the system and we calculate the associated values that
are supported by a physical model simulation. Based on this data, we develop the tridimensional dynamic
model of the vehicle by using the Lagrange equation.
In second place, we linearize the resultant model to allow the implementation of linear controllers. Next, we
calculate the linear-quadratic regulator (LQR) to stabilize the system.
In the third place, we implement the resultant dynamic model simulation, and we define and identify the
correction factors of the main parameters of the system. That way we are able to correct the mistakes made
during the calculation process, as well as the estimation of these parameters.
In fourth place, we identify and analyze the vehicle restrictions related to the limitations due to its own physics,
as well as the limitations associated with its implemented controller.
Lastly, we make experimental tests and we record the data so we can compare these tests with the results of
the simulations of the dynamic model that we have developed. | es |
