Secretarios del rey escribanos de Cámara en el Consejo de Indias: oficiales de la pluma para el gobierno de la monarquía

Abstract

El presente estudio pretende reflexionar sobre la calidad y funciones propias de los profesionales del documento y la escritura que crecieron y se desarrollaron durante el Antiguo Régimen, para gestionar y poner por escrito los negocios propios del gobierno de las Indias. En concreto, se analizarán las prácticas documentales llevadas a cabo por los secretarios del rey y los escribanos de Cámara que ejercían su trabajo en el Consejo de Indias, con el fin de reparar en sus funciones y establecer sus similitudes y diferencias. Para ello, he distinguido las tres facetas o actividades que con más claridad permitían a los ministros de papeles en general ser reconocidos en su profesión y posicionarse para, llegado el caso, ascender a puestos de mayor consideración. Estas tres facetas o funciones son las siguientes: la mayor o menor cercanía y confianza respecto al monarca; su mayor o menor participación en la gestión de los negocios secretos; y, por último, sus mayores o menores capacidades en la redacción y expedición de documentos reales.

The present study aims to think about the quality and functions of the professionals of the document and writing, which grew and developed during the Old Regime to manage and write the business of the government of the Indies.
