dc.description.abstract | Currently, there are a large number of biomechanical studies on cyclists and their interaction with the bicycle.
Although the vast majority are about the force that the cyclist performs on the pedal. In this project, the
interaction of the cyclist on the handlebars of the bicycle will be studied.
This study will consist of carrying out the instrumentation of the handlebars of a commercial bicycle to obtain
the efforts produced by the rider on the handlebars. First, a preliminary study was conducted consisting of a
finite element model of half of the handlebar. This study resulted in the location of the gauges to be placed on
each side of the handlebar.
Once the position of the gauges has been determined and once the handlebar has been inserted, the calibration
phase proceeds. A large number of measurements were made at this point, until a certain repeatability was
obtained in the results measured by the gauges. With these measurements, a conversion matrix was obtained
for each mass. From the obtained matrices, the average matrix was calculated, which was subsequently
validated.
In the validation, very good results were obtained for the average matrix, with errors of less than 3% in the X
and Y axes. In the Z axis, the errors were around 10%, although they were considered valid due to the scarce
force applied in that direction (lateral-medial direction).
Finally, a qualitative test of the behavior of the device was carried out with several users. These tests consisted
of a first sitting and a low pedaling rhythm, and another one while pedaling while standing and at a high
rhythm.
To finalize the document, it was concluded that the average matrix was adequate since it was the one that
made the fewest errors throughout the mass range. Furthermore, it was verified that the qualitative behavior of
the system, throughout the tests with users, was the logical and expected behavior. On the other hand, a series
of possible future improvements of the device were made, such as the design of a tooling for the placement of
the masses in the calibration phase. | es |
