The goal of the present work is to introduce the basic elements of the degree theory in spaces of finite (Brouwer theory) and infinite (Leray-Schauder theory) dimension. The goal of the present work is to introduce the basic elements of the degree theory in spaces of finite (Brouwer theory) and infinite (Leray-Schauder theory) dimension. We are mainly interested in showing the relationship with the existence of solution and the dependence with respect to the data for systems of non-linear equations. Specially, we consider the application to the resolution of differential problems. Namely, the finite-dimensional theory is used to show the existence of periodic solutions and critical points for ordinary differential systems. The infinite-dimensional theory is used to get a very general result about the existence of local solution for a Cauchy problem relative to an ordinary differential system and to show the existence of weak solution for the Navier-Stokes system. |
